Welcome to MidWest Center
First, give yourself credit for having the courage to come to this site and taking that first step. Whether you are searching for help for yourself, your relationship, or a family member, you’ve made that first critical commitment to take action, and that is always the most difficult step. So congratulations on being here, and we have created this site to help you make the best decisions possible for yourself and your family! From here you have two options or roads you can take:
Give us a call … or contact us
You’ve taken that first step and came to our website … maybe the best thing for you to do right now is call us and start the process. We will ask you some questions so we clearly understand your scenario … possibly have you fill out a pre-screening assessment, and depending upon which of the 4 Twin Cities locations you choose, we will recommend a therapist for you to contact. Call now at 651-647-1900.
Review this website so you can make the best decision for you or your family
If you’re not quite ready to call, then take some time to search our website and educate yourself on what therapy and counseling are all about, how it works, and help yourself make the best possible decision for you and your loved ones. A great place to start is at “Our Services, or Locations and Providers.”
Let’s start with a few important questions you may have:
How do you know if you or your loved one needs therapy?
The fact that you are at this website is probably a good indication that you are at a point where you could use some help. If certain issues have been causing pain and problems in your life and you just aren’t sure how to deal with them, or how to make changes yourself, therapy may be the answer. Does it feel like your issues are growing stronger? Have you tried to change before but have been unsuccessful? Are you finding it more and more difficult to cope with things? Are you having more trouble concentrating at school or work? If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, an experienced therapist may be the help you are looking for.
Self-Administered Screening Tools To Evaluate Your Situation
Self-evaluating your or your loved one’s mental health can be an important first step in helping you decide if you could use help with your issue. A great place to begin is with the self-screening questionnaires we offer on this website. At MidWest Center, we offer several different screening tools for you to utilize.
How do you choose the right therapist?
In order for therapy or counseling to work, it is critical that you or your loved one is comfortable and confident with your therapist. Therapy will not work unless you have a strong bond with your clinician. That relationship is so important that …
It has been proven that the number one reason why therapy works is because of the relationship between the client and the therapist!
Here are a few questions you should consider when choosing a therapist:
How can you pay for therapy—is it covered by insurance?
At MidWest Center for Personal & Family Development we accept most insurance companies, and we recommend you contact your company and confirm that they cover mental health issues. We also accept several EAPS, which are Employee Assistance Programs that offer program-paid counseling for their employees. Before you choose a therapist, just do your homework and make sure the provider you choose offers you several way to handle payments.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
It depends on your personal situation – sometimes it just takes a few sessions to address the issue, and other time it may be recommended that you see a therapist/clinician as a longer-term support system; some come weekly and some come 1x per month! And don’t believe the myth that therapy is forever, although some people occasionally see a therapist throughout their life time, this is the exception. At MidWest Center for Personal & Family Development we will help you create goals and time frames that work for you!
