ABOUT DOUG PETRIE

Location:  Rochester 

Doug is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor who joined MidWest Center with 15 years of experience in the Mental Health field. He graduated from University of St. Thomas with his Master’s degree. He is a Certified Narrative Therapist and has done training in EMDR with EMDRIA. He is currently in the process of earning a Certification in Art Therapy from Adler Graduate School and becoming a registered play therapist. Doug’s previous experiences include Jewish Family and Children Services, Fraser Services, The Blake School, The Family Partnership, and Kenwood Therapy Center. Doug specializes in many different types of therapy including narrative, play and art therapy in addition to EMDR. He focuses on working with children and adolescents as well as the GLBT community. In a collaborative approach, Doug works with clients on trauma, ADHD, anxiety, depression, life transitions, autism, learning difficulties and bipolar disorder. He works with children (0-12), adolescents, adults and geriatric clients in an individual, couples and family format. Doug speaks Spanish and works with the Latino community in the Twin Cities as well as other diverse clientele.

Doug’s Therapy Approach:  “My inclination is to approach therapy very collaboratively. It seems to be much more successful and quicker. I utilize the toolbox of therapies to fit the client’s needs. Therapies I utilize include narrative art, talk, play, EMDR, DBT based approaches and sand tray.”
